Your Journey

Undergoing any type of surgery is a personal experience that differs from one person to the next. At PK Plastic Surgery we listen to what you hope to achieve from surgery and make recommendations tailored to you. From your first enquiry through to you follow-up care, we aim to make you feel at ease at each stage of the journey.

We expect you to have some queries before you book in for your first consultation. Please call or email us so we can talk you through what to expect, including the cost of the consultation if you are funding your treatment yourself.

If you are ready to make an appointment, we will take some contact details from you and the reason you would like to see Mr Kalu.

If you are an insured patient, you will need to have your membership number and the authorisation code to hand. Please speak to your insurer if you do not have these details.

The consultation is a chance for you to ask questions and have one-on-one time with the surgeon before you decide to proceed. All patients are required to have a consultation before their procedure as you will need to undergo a full health assessment with Mr Kalu before any surgery can be booked. It is also essential that you understand the risks of any planned procedure and the alternative options available to you.

This also applies to patients who have been under the care of the NHS and wish to expedite their care privately as the two systems operate independently of each other.

A summary of your discussion will be provided to you in a follow-up letter so you can take the time to digest the information and ask any further questions if you have any.

The consultation fee is not refundable whether you decide to go ahead with the surgery or not as it covers the time spent with Mr Kalu discussing your individual concerns and a bespoke treatment plan.

Once you have decided you would like to go ahead with your procedure, we will discuss available surgery dates with you and reserve your preferred choice.

For general anaesthetic procedures, you will be required to have a pre-operative assessment with the hospital’s nursing team. Some patients may also need to have diagnostic tests, such as scans, and a pre-operative appointment with Mr Kalu.

On the day of the surgery, you will be seen by Mr Kalu, and his anaesthetist if you are having a general anaesthetic.

At any point between deciding to have surgery and undergoing the procedure, please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have.

After your surgery it is important to give your body time to recover. We will let you know how to care for yourself in the post-operative period and what activities you will be able to undertake.

Every patient is different and your recovery time will depend on how you respond to surgery. Evidence shows that patients who get up and move around after surgery and have suitable pain management have a faster recovery time and a reduced risk of complications. We will support you in setting some early goals at a pace you are comfortable with.
